Revised Pullumedu Forest Route Timings for Sabarimala Pilgrims Announced

Idukki District Administration Revises Pullumedu Forest
Route Timings for Sabarimala Devotees
The Idukki district administration has announced a revised
schedule for devotees traveling to Sabarimala via the Pullumedu forest route.
Effective January 8, 2025, the entry timings have been reduced by one hour, now
limited from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM, instead of the previous window of 7:00
AM to 1:00 PM.
Key Points:
Reason
for Change
The revision comes in light of the increasing number of devotees traveling for
the Sabarimala Makaravilakku Puja Mahotsavam, particularly along the
Pullumedu-Kanakam path. The surge in foot traffic has raised security concerns,
as delayed journeys pose risks to devotees.
Decision-Making
Process
A high-level committee meeting was convened in Sabarimala under the directive
of Idukki District Collector Vigneshwari and the Devaswom Board. The
adjustment was based on a recommendation from the Joint Director of the
Western Division of the Thekkady Periyar Tiger Reserve.
Implementation
Details
- The
new timings for the Pullumedu forest route are from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM,
effective immediately.
- Timings
for other routes, such as the Erumeli highway via Aluthakadav and
Mukkuzhi, remain unchanged, allowing entry from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The Devaswom Board emphasized that the change aims to
enhance safety and manage the increasing number of devotees efficiently.
Devotees are urged to adhere to the revised timings and cooperate with
authorities for a smooth pilgrimage experience.
