Devaswom Board Launches ₹5 Lakh Accident Coverage for Sabarimala Pilgrims and staff
The Travancore Devaswom Board has announced the launch of a comprehensive accident insurance scheme for devotees visiting Sabarimala and the board’s employees. Board President P.S. Prashanth shared that the scheme also includes over a thousand members of the sanitation workforce through a special initiative in collaboration with the state government.
The plan offers accident insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh for both Devaswom employees and devotees. if an accident occurs within the Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts . Devotees using the virtual queue or spot booking systems are also eligible for this coverage. The insurance is being implemented through United General Insurance Company, with the entire premium cost borne by the Devaswom Board.
Additionally, a workplace accident insurance scheme has been introduced for sanitation workers and willing dolly workers, jointly implemented by the state government and the Devaswom Board. Over a thousand workers will benefit from this initiative, which is managed through India Post Payments Bank.
According to Sabarimala ADM Arun S. Nair, the insurance covers up to ₹10 lakh in the event of death due to a workplace accident, ₹10 lakh for permanent disability, and ₹5 lakh for partial disability. The scheme also includes educational benefits for children of workers who are students. The annual premium for this insurance is set at ₹499.
