Kerala High Court Accepts Affidavit Highlighting Financial Irregularities in Guruvayur Devaswom Accounts
The Kerala High Court on Wednesday accepted an affidavit submitted by the state audit department, which highlighted significant financial irregularities in the accounts of the Guruvayur Devaswom. The report pointed to improper accounting of receipts and expenditures by the temple authorities, raising concerns over the financial management of the institution.
The Guruvayur Devaswom is the custodian of the renowned Sri Krishna Temple in Guruvayur, Thrissur district—one of the most visited temples in Kerala. The affidavit, reviewed by a division bench comprising Justices Anil K. Narendran and S. Murali Krishna, contained serious allegations regarding the mismanagement of financial accounts by the Devaswom managing committee.
The audit report was filed in response to a petition by Dr. P.S. Mahendra Kumar, who sought court intervention to compel the Devaswom to disclose details of its financial deposits in cooperative societies. He expressed concerns over possible financial mismanagement, particularly in light of recent banking scandals in Thrissur.
The affidavit submitted to the court outlined Several financial discrepancies, mismanagement of temple funds, and lapses in cybersecurity protocols, raising serious concerns about the administration of temples under the Guruvayur Devaswom Board.
The court is expected to examine the findings and take necessary steps to ensure transparency and accountability in the temple’s financial operations.
