Government Considers Forming Sabarimala Development Authority
Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan informed the Assembly that the government is considering the establishment of a Sabarimala Development Authority to oversee construction and development activities related to Sabarimala, ensuring better coordination among various departments. The proposed authority will be chaired by the Chief Minister, with the Devaswom Minister serving as the Vice Chairman, alongside high-ranking officials as members.
The minister made this announcement in response to a call for attention by Adv. K.U. Janeesh Kumar MLA regarding the development of Sabarimala. He also stated that the feasibility of establishing permanent accommodation facilities in Konni and Seetha Thot would be examined.
Ropeway Project Progress and Land Acquisition
As part of the Sabarimala Master Plan, the government has awarded the ropeway project to a private company on a revenue-sharing basis, and a construction contract has been finalized. Once operational, the ropeway will replace the existing method of transporting goods from Pampa to Sannidhanam, currently carried out using tractors.
To facilitate this project, 4.536 hectares of forest land between Pampa and Sannidhanam will be acquired. In exchange, revenue land in Kulathupuzha, Kollam district, has been allocated to the Forest Department for compensatory afforestation. The necessary approvals for forest and wildlife clearance are currently in progress.
Implementation of Sabarimala Master Plan
The government has approved the Sabarimala Master Plan, aiming to ensure sustainable infrastructure development and environmental conservation while enhancing the pilgrimage experience for devotees. The blueprint for the development of Sannidhanam and the traditional path was sanctioned on January 9, emphasizing a traditional architectural style that honors the spiritual and cultural heritage of Sabarimala.
Minister Vasavan assured that all projects under the master plan will be executed swiftly, with improved infrastructure facilities at all key locations to enhance the experience of pilgrims.
