Ahmedabad/Faridabad – The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), with help from Haryana police, arrested a 19-year-old man who was planning to attack the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The arrest happened on Sunday, March 2, in Faridabad, Haryana, after police got a tip about a dangerous plot linked to Pakistan’s spy agency, ISI.
The suspect, Abdul Rehman, comes from Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh, had reportedly conducted reconnaissance of the Ram Mandir premises in Ayodhya twice as part of a terror plot.
Milkipur was till a few months ago the bastion of the Samajwadi Party. In the past Milkipur was represented by Awadhesh Prasad of Samajwadi Party who is now Faizabad MP.
Police say he was getting ready to attack the famous Ram Mandir, a temple visited by thousands of people. They caught him in Faridabad, where he was hiding, and found two hand grenades and a pen drive with plans for the attack. The grenades were safely taken away, and Rehman was brought to Gujarat for questioning.

The Gujarat ATS worked with Haryana’s Special Task Force and other agencies after Knowing about the attack plan. They tracked Rehman to an empty house in Faridabad, searched it for four hours, and found the weapons. The police kept the area locked down to stay safe while they worked.
Officials say Rehman was going to attack “very soon,” so they had to act fast. After his arrest, senior police officers went to Delhi to talk about security with the government. They’re now trying to figure out if others were helping him.
What Police Found Out
Rehman is from Faizabad, near Ayodhya, and had visited the Ram Mandir twice to check it out. Police think he took a train to Faridabad, met someone who gave him the grenades, and was planning to go back to Ayodhya to attack. They stopped him just in time.
Investigators say he was talking to people in Pakistan online, who told him what to do. They even taught him how to use big guns like the AK-47. Now, police are looking at his phone and computer to find out who else was involved.
Why the Ram Mandir?
The Ram Mandir is a special temple that opened last year on January 22, 2024. It’s a Sacred Hindu Site for many people in India, and lots of visitors come, especially during festivals like the Mahakumbh happening now. Because it’s so important, it’s a target for troublemakers. After this scare, police have increased security around the temple to keep everyone safe.
Police think Rehman might be part of a bigger group working with Pakistan. They found some videos and other clues on him that show he wasn’t acting alone. Now, they’re trying to find anyone else who helped him, like people in Faridabad or online.
The Gujarat ATS says stopping this attack was a big win. They’re still asking Rehman questions to Know more. For now, their quick work has kept the Ram Mandir and its visitors safe from harm.
