President Droupadi Murmu set to visit Sabarimala; Ayyappa Darshan by mid-May
Thiruvananthapuram, April 02, 2025 – President Droupadi Murmu is preparing to take darshan at the Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple, expected by mid-May during the Edava Masa Pooja. Arrangements are being made, including security and lodging plans.
President Droupadi Murmu might visit Sabarimala in May to pray to Lord Ayyappa during the Edava Masa Pooja. Preparations for her trip, like security and places to stay, are already in progress.
Reports say the Rashtrapati Bhavan has reached out to the Travancore Devaswom Board to organize the pilgrimage. After the Meenam Masa Pooja in March, the police checked security and accommodation at Sabarimala. They looked at rooms in the administrative block and other details. The Pathanamthitta District Collector also asked for information from the Devaswom Board’s Sabarimala Executive Office.
The President’s nursing superintendent asked about plans for the trek from Pampa to Sannidhanam. She is likely to arrive at Nilakkal by helicopter and then walk from Pampa to Sannidhanam for darshan. The Devaswom Board hasn’t received an official notice yet but has been told to get ready for a possible visit around May 17, during the Edava Masa Pooja.
Board member A. Ajikumar said they got an informal message about the visit. They still need an official letter from the government’s administrative department (Political). The District Collector and other officials are asking about the best date for darshan. The temple will be open from May 14 to 19, and the board said these days would work well.
Sources suggest the President’s Sabarimala visit could be part of a bigger trip, including darshan at Guruvayur and other temples.
