One Dead, Over 20 Injured as Bus Carrying Pilgrims to Sabarimala Overturns
A tragic accident claimed the life of a 45-year-old man and injured more than 20 others when a private bus transporting pilgrims from Karnataka to the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala overturned near Erumely on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on a highway known for its sharp bends and steep incline.
The bus, carrying 32 pilgrims, including seven children, was en route to the sacred Sabarimala shrine when it lost control while navigating the challenging terrain, according to an officer from the Erumely police station. The vehicle veered off the road and overturned, coming to rest on its side.
Emergency services responded swiftly. Five passengers with serious injuries were rushed to Kottayam Medical College for treatment, while approximately 18 others, who sustained minor cuts and bruises, received first aid at nearby hospitals.
