Sabarimala Temple Set to Welcome Devotees for Arattu and Vishu Pooja's


Pathanamthitta: The iconic Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala is gearing up to open its doors on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, ushering in the much-anticipated temple arattu festival and Meda Vishu poojas. Located in hills of Kerala, this sacred shrine is preparing to host devotees for a spiritually enriching experience.
The temple’s chief priest, Melsanthi Arun Kumar Namboothiri, will unlock the sanctum at 4 pm, marking the occasion by lighting the traditional oil lamps. This ceremonial act will pave the way for the festivities, drawing pilgrims eager to connect with the divine.
On April 2, the festival will officially begin with the hoisting of the ceremonial flag, a ritual slated to take place between 9:45 am and 10:45 am. Overseen by Thantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, this vibrant tradition signals the start of the ulsavam celebrations. The festivities will reach a grand conclusion with the Aarattu ritual on April 11, where the deity’s idol will be bathed in the waters of the Pamba River, a cherished event for devotees.
The temple will stay accessible for 18 straight days, extending into the Meda Vishu poojas. On Vishu day, April 14, devotees can experience the Vishukkani darshan from 4 am to 7 am, a special viewing of the deity surrounded by auspicious offerings. Following this, the Abhishekam ceremony will commence at 7 am, adding to the day’s sanctity.
