Some Women Opposed Women’s Entry into Sabarimala: High Court

Kochi: The High Court has remarked that there has been notable progress in women’s empowerment in Kerala’s public sphere. The division bench stated that a shift in women’s empowerment has been evident, particularly since the Sabarimala issue. However, the court noted that significant strides in women’s empowerment are still lacking within the realms of home and religion.
The court observed that some women themselves were against allowing women into Sabarimala, adding that if change begins within households, there might be no need to enact a women’s empowerment law. This statement was made by Justices Dr. A. K. Jayasankaran Nambiar and C. S. Sudha while addressing a set of petitions tied to the Hema Committee report.
In other news, the government informed the High Court that a film conclave is planned for late April or the first week of May. The government also mentioned that a draft of the film law will be crafted after shaping the policy. It further requested additional time from the court to present details about the film law.
