14 April Vishu Kani Darshan 2025: Sabarimala and Guruvayur Timings

Sabarimala Vishu Kani Darshan

The sacred Sabarimala temple welcomes devotees for the Vishu Kani Darshan scheduled for April 14 , a significant ritual marking the Malayalam New Year. On Vishu day, the darshan will be held from 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM, offering devotees an auspicious start to the year. Following this, the Abhishekam ceremony will commence at 7:00 AM. The temple will complete its pujas and close at 10:00 PM on April 18.

The Sabarimala temple opened on April 1 for the Meda month pujas, hosting a vibrant festival from April 2 to 11. After the festival, the temple remains open for an extended period of 18 days to accommodate additional Vishu-related pujas, allowing devotees ample opportunity to seek blessings.

On Vishu day at Sabarimala, it is a tradition for the priests to distribute Vishu Kaineettam, which often includes coins, to devotees as a token of blessing. This practice is part of the Vishu celebrations, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune for the coming year. The coins are given after the Vishukani Darshan, typically by the Melsanthi (chief priest) and Tantri, to those present at the temple, including devotees and temple staff.

Guruvayur Vishu Kani Darshan

At the revered Guruvayur temple, the Vishu Kani Darshan is scheduled for April 14 from 2:45 AM to 3:45 AM. A beautifully arranged Kani will be set up on the right side of the Guruvayurappa idol in the Srilakam. The Kani includes traditional items such as dried rice, cucumber, jackfruit, mango, clothes, coins, tails, coconuts, and more, symbolizing prosperity and abundance. Accompanying the ritual, a golden drum will be carried with Alavattam and Venchamaram, adding to the ceremonial grandeur.

The ritual begins with Melshanthi Kavapra Marath Mana Achuthan Namboothiri presenting the Kani to Lord Guruvayurappan. Subsequently, the Srilaka door will open, allowing devotees to partake in the Kani darshan. The temple’s daily offerings will proceed as usual after the darshan. For the noon puja, a special Namaskara Sadhya will be offered to Guruvayurappan, featuring delicacies like Kalaan, Erisseri, Varuthapperi, and Itichupizhinjhan Payasam. Devotees can collect Prasadam starting at 10:00 AM, sharing in the divine blessings of the occasion.
